Before PDR Homes broke ground on its first new construction project, our team spent years deep in the world of historic renovation — painstakingly restoring older homes with original materials and an uncompromising eye for detail. We no longer offer renovation services, but that chapter shaped everything about the way we build today. Here's what those projects taught us about quality, craftsmanship, and why we refuse to cut corners.

Downtown Frederick's historic townhomes have character that's hard to find anywhere else — solid brick construction, original details, and locations that put you in the middle of one of Maryland's best small cities. They also come with real challenges. PDR Homes tackled three of them and delivered results worth seeing.

Madison Street

All-Brick Townhome, Opened Up

This all-brick townhome in downtown Frederick got a full renovation focused on opening the floor plan and modernizing everything inside while keeping the character of the exterior intact. PDR Homes brick accents, updated the kitchen countertops, installed modern steel appliances and a subway tile backsplash, and refinished the hardwood floors throughout. Updates included the master bedroom, bathrooms, and major utilities. The result is a home that feels modern and functional while still looking like it belongs in the neighborhood.

West 6th Street — Expanded End

Unit with Main Level Primary Suite

This historic end-unit townhome in downtown Frederick was renovated for comfortability and modern convenience while maintaining a historic feel. PDR Homes exposed brick accents throughout, rebuilt the kitchen, and updated the upper level bedrooms, bathrooms, and loft space. Before-and-after photos on this one are dramatic — same bones, completely different home.

Two Structures, One Cohesive Home

This project started with an existing house and a detached garage sitting side by side. PDR Homes obtained Historic Commission approval and joined the two structures into a single unified home, then rebuilt the entire interior with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The before photos show what they were working with. The after photos show a home that reads as intentional from top to bottom — no trace of the awkward starting point. Getting a project like this through historic review and executing it cleanly requires a level of experience that shows in the finished product.
