For awhile now, PDR Homes has been exclusively focused on new construction. That's a big shift from where we started, offering renovation services as well as new builds, and it deserves an explanation.
Where We Started
When Pat founded this company in 2018, we did it all. Renovations, remodels, historic restorations — that was a huge part of who we were. And we were good at it. We've got the FCBIA awards to prove it. The Bonnie Duncan Farmhouse. The Ridge Road remodel. The West 2nd Street project.
Those were some of the most challenging, rewarding jobs we've ever done. Tearing into a 100-year-old structure, figuring out what it needs, and bringing it back to life, there is really nothing quite like it. We're proud of every single one of those projects. We'll always be proud of them.
But pride and business focus are two different things. And over the past few years, it became really clear where PDR Homes belongs.
Why New Construction, and Why Now
New construction is where we can deliver the most consistent, highest-quality experience for our buyers. When you're building from the ground up, we control the process. We know exactly what goes into every wall, every beam, every foundation. There are no surprises hiding behind drywall. No previous owner's shortcuts to work around.
Renovations are unpredictable by nature, and while we handled that unpredictability better than most, it creates real challenges when it comes to timelines, budgets, and the kind of clear communication we've always been committed to. New builds let us offer transparent pricing at contract signing, clear allowances for all your selections, and a realistic schedule we can actually commit to and meet. That matters a lot to us.
We're also in a position now, with our communities in Walkersville, Middletown, Elkridge, and Frederick, where demand is real and the work is right in our wheelhouse. These aren't cookie-cutter neighborhoods. These are carefully developed communities with semi-custom homes across five model lines — the Athens, Berkeley, Columbia, Lexington, and Scottsdale — each one designed to be built the way we'd want our own homes built.
What This Means for You
If you came to us because of a renovation project you saw in our portfolio, we appreciate that more than you know. That work represents years of craft and care. But if you're looking to renovate today, we're not the right fit anymore, and we'd rather be upfront about that than waste your time.
